He completed his degree in Neurology in 2006 and continued (2006-2007) with postgraduate studies as a Fellow at Columbia University, New York Presbyterian Hospital, Neurological Clinic, Division of Aging and Dementia. Since 2008 he is an associate Neurologist of Athens Alzheimer Association and in charge of its Memory and Dementia Clinic at the Day Center for people with Dementia in Pangrati, Athens.

He is a neurologist specialized in dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. From October 2012 works as associate neurologist in the memory clinic of Athens Alzheimer Association.  Dr. Vasileios Lyras is a member of the dementia branch of the Hellenic Neurological Society and participated in the working group for the development of guidelines and therapeutic protocols for dementia in Greece. His research interests include behavioral neurology, psychosocial interventions in dementia and the application of new technologies in the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Dr Vasileios Lyras is particularly involved in the social dimension of dementia and the burden on caregivers of people with dementia.

She works in the Athens Alzheimer’s Association since 2009 (“Home Care Programme”) and she coordinates a Dementia Day Care Center in Athens since 2018. Her research interests are focused on patients’ quality of life, nonpharmacological interventions, caregiver burden and education and prevention of dementia.  She has participated in European projects.

After receiving her master’s degree she participated as a research assistant and co-ordinator in the Epidemiological study of dementia in Greece (HELIAD) in the region of Larissa and Athens from 2009 until today. Her clinical and research interests focus on neurodegenerative brain diseases, cognitive functioning, and diet as well as other possible risks and protective factors for neurodegenerative diseases. She has been working as neuropsychologist at a Dementia Day Centre for people with dementia in Athens Alzheimer’s Association in Metz for almost 2 years.
