    Dr Paraskevi Sakka graduated from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) from which she also obtained a specialty title in Neurology and Psychiatry. She completed her training at the Cambridge University Psychiatric Hospital, UK. She obtained a Ph.D. degree from the Medical School of NKUA. Since 2003, she has been Director of the Department of Neurodegenerative Brain Diseases – Memory Clinic of Hygeia Hospital in Athens. Her clinical work is seeing elderly patients with dementia and other neurodegenerative disorders. Her research interests include pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatments of dementia and the use of Technological Innovations in monitoring and supporting patients with cognitive impairment. She has participated in numerous Greek and international projects for dementia and other degenerative brain disorders. Dr. Sakka is particularly interested in the social aspects of dementia and the burden imposed on caregivers and families. She has founded the Athens Alzheimer Association in which has been continuously elected president, since 2002. During the last years she has been active in making Dementia a Public Health priority in Greece.  Since 2015, as Head of the Greek National Observatory for Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease, Dr. Sakka has been working towards the development and the implementation of the Greek Dementia Action Plan.

    Panagiota Zoi is a psychologist. She holds her bachelor’s in Psychology from Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences and a Master’s degree, in Aging and chronic diseases management, Joint Degree from Hellenic Open University with from the Medical School the University of Thessaly, Greece. She is licensed to practice psychology since 2009. She works in the Athens Alzheimer’s Association since 2009 (“Home Care Programme”) and she coordinates a Dementia Day Care Center in Athens since 2018. Her research interests are focused on patients’ quality of life, nonpharmacological interventions, caregiver burden and education and prevention of dementia.  She has participated in European projects.

    Dr. Vasileios Lyras is a neurologist specialized in dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. He holds a master’s degree in aging and chronic diseases management and from October 2012 works as associate neurologist in the memory clinic of Athens Alzheimer Association.   Since July 2013 he is a part of the medical team and scientific committee of “AKTIOS” elderly care units, responsible for the neurological evaluation and monitoring of residents in the group’s units, while maintaining a private practice in Ilisia. Dr. Vasileios Lyras is a member of the dementia branch of the Hellenic Neurological Society and participated in the working group for the development of guidelines and therapeutic protocols for dementia in Greece. He is also member of the Hellenic Society of Dementia, of the Hellenic Geriatric and Gerontological Society and the scientific committee of Athens Alzheimer Association. His research interests include behavioral neurology, psychosocial interventions in dementia and the application of new technologies in the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Dr Vasileios Lyras is particularly involved in the social dimension of dementia and the burden on caregivers of people with dementia.’

    Dr. Lykourgos-Athanasios Kartsaklis is a Physician, Neurologist. He was born in Athens in 1973 and studied at the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, from where he graduated in 1997. He completed his degree in Neurology in 2006 and continued (2006-2007) with postgraduate studies as a Fellow at Columbia University, New York Presbyterian Hospital, Neurological Clinic, Division of Aging and Dementia, with an IKY Fellowship and supervising Professor Dr. Karen Marder. He received the State Scholarships Foundation / IKY scholarship in ‘Neuroscience’ 2005-2006, and in 2008 he was distinguished by his research study at the annual conference of the AAN (American Academy of Neurology). He practices privately in his office in the area of Papagos and for the last five years he has been an associate Neurologist in LLM Care Cognitive and Physical Training System, Papagou-Holargos Municipality. Since 2008 he is an associate Neurologist of Athens Alzheimer Association and in charge of its Memory and Dementia Clinic at the Day Center for people with Dementia in Pangrati, Athens.

    Xanthi Arampatzi is a Psychologist and a PhD candidate in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. She obtained her bachelor’s in Psychology and a Master in Neuropsychology and Cognitive Psychology from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. She is licensed to practice psychology since 2006. She did her practice in the Neurological Clinic of Papageorgiou General Hospital in Thessaloniki. During her postgraduate and PhD studies she participates as a researcher with primary responsibility the administration and evaluation of neuropsychological testing. After receiving her master’s degree she participated as a research assistant and co-ordinator in the Epidemiological study of dementia in Greece (HELIAD) in the region of Larissa and Athens from 2009 until today. The study is in collaboration with the A’ Neurological Clinic of Eginition Hospital. Her clinical and research interests focus on neurodegenerative brain diseases, cognitive functioning, and diet as well as other possible risks and protective factors for neurodegenerative diseases. She has been working as neuropsychologist at a Dementia Day Centre for people with dementia in Athens Alzheimer’s Association in Metz for almost 2 years.

    Eirini Vamvakari was born 1982 in Piraeus. She is married with one child. In 2004 she graduated from the Social Work Department (Faculty of Health and Caring Professions, Technological Educational Institution – TEI – of Athens).

    Since 2005 she has been working as a Social Worker in Keratsini’s Center for the Open Care for the elderly and from 2012 until now she is working as a Social Worker at Alzheimer’s Athens Association.

    In 2013 she completed her studies at the Master of Education – M.Ed. on “Gender and New Educational and Work Environments within the Society of  Information” (Department of Pre-School Education Sciences and Educational Design, School of Humanities, University of the Aegean). Her Master thesis was referred to “3rd Age and New Technologies” and in 2016 the thesis published with this title from Lambert Publishing.

    In 2019 she completed  her training in family therapy at the University Mental Health Research Institute (UMHRI) in Athens, Greece.

    She has participated in conferences and seminars and she is voluntarily employed with vulnerable social groups.
