Types of Assessments

 

  • Evaluation of physical condition and frailty.
  • Neuropsychological screening: Μini-cog, MMSE, 3MS, MoCA and scales regarding the frontal assessment functioning.
  • Neuropsychiatric symptoms: Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI) andwhen is considered necessary use of psychometric scales to investigate specific neuropsychiatric symptoms e.g., CSDD, Apathy Scale,Cohen Mansfield Agitation Inventory, e.t.c.).
  • Functional assessment:ADCS-ADL
What should patients bring when visiting the clinic?
  • The patient should have a health card or AMKA (SSN), visual or hearing aids, previous assessments  (biochemical, neuroimaging, neuropsychological). Short information note/memo from previous hospitalizations or if monitored by another unit or physician.
Research Activities
  • Research activities for   the use of psychotropic  drugs  in neurocognitive disorders, the implementation of telemedicine in training activities, diagnosis, clinical assessment and management of neuropsychiatric symptoms.
  • Research collaboration on Νeuropsychiatric symptoms e.g Apathy (pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions) and collaborationwith the Department of Psychiatry, Division of Neuropsychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry, John’s Hopkins Medical School.
  • Adaptation and implementation of the Problem Adaptation Therapy (PATH): adaptation for Greek older adults with depression and cognitive difficulties, in Greek population in collaboration with the Weill-Cornell Institute of Geriatric Psychiatry.
  • Conducting the “Ears, Eyes and Mind: The ‘SENSE-Cog Project’ to improve mental well-being for elderly Europeans with sensory impairment” study. H2020-PHC-2015-two-stage, regarding the impact and management of sensory deficits (hearing / vision) in patients with dementia.

  • Training of the residents of Psychiatry of the 1st Psychiatric Department.

  • Training and internship of students of the MSc “Psychiatric Forensics”.

  • Training and internship of postgraduate students of the MSc “Physiology of Aging and Geriatric Syndromes” of NKUA.

  • Training of postgraduate students of the MSc “Diabetes and Obesity”.

  • Training of psychiatrists and residents of psychiatry through seminars, in collaboration with Hellenic Psychiatric Association.

  • Inform the community on a regular basis on dementia issues with an emphasis on recognizing, understanding and managing behavioral disorders.
Population to whom the services are addressed
  • The Outpatient Psychogeriatric Clinic/Telepsychogeriatric Clinic, regularly monitors patients who experience major and minor neurocognitive disorders and other neuropsychiatric disorders, while a specialized service provides information and support for the caregivers

Information

The Outpatient Psychogeriatric clinic was founded at 1990 and since 2002 it runs on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Telepsychiatry service, runs on Tuesday and Thursday. The Division of Geriatric Psychiatry is interconnected in a network of University Psychiatric Clinics: 2nd University Psychiatric Clinic ΝΚUA “Attikon”, 1stUniversity Psychiatric Clinic of A.U.Th “Papageorgiou”, University Psychiatric Clinic of Thessaly, University Psychiatric Clinic of Patras and University Psychiatric Clinic of Trace. The purpose of this network is the implementation of joint actions that include the development of a common database and the promotion of research collaboration.

Booking Appointments either by telephone (through the secretariat of the outpatient clinic) or by a request for evaluation through the social service of the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry. For the service of telepsychogeriatrics, appointments are made through the coordinator based in the Andros Health Center

He is a member of professional and scientific Greek and international associations. Prof. Politis was past President of the International College of Geriatric Neuropsychopharmacology and is President of the Hellenic Psychogeriatric Association. He has published articles in relevant International and Greek scientific journals and chapters in books.

During her residency, she attended a 6-month visiting fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry in Weill Cornell Medical College, White Plains, New York, USA. She has worked as a psychiatrist in the Day Center “Open Doors” of KEELPNO as well as in the Day Center “Panhellenic Association of Families for Mental Health” in Athens and in Mental Health Unit for Adults and Children, EKEPSY. She is working from 2018 as psychiatrist in the Community mental Health Center of Levadia. Her main area of clinical and research interest is the geriatric psychiatry.
